Professional Development

This team, consisting of representatives from each school district, Gila Community College and the County School Superintendent’s Office, has been working in partnership since June of 2002 to ensure coordination of professional development opportunities throughout the county. Working closely with the Special Projects and Personnel Recruitment and Retention Committees, the team works to pool human, monetary and time resources available to its LEA members by collaborating on common professional development objectives each year.

Some of the notable projects of recent history are:

Collaboration with the Southern Gila County College Preparatory Academy for the 2010-11 school year

Post Secondary Education Fairs – the largest educational fair within the state, held outside of the Phoenix metropolitan area.  For the first time in the Fall of 2011, a second fair was held in Payson to accommodate students from the Northern portion of the county

Gila County Teachers Institute - a one day event consisting of a collection of professional development opportunities for educators throughout the county

Two Math and Science Partnership grants through the ADE and Intel focused on increasing academic achievement of students in mathematics by enhancing the content knowledge and teaching skills of classroom teachers in grade K-8.

A Differentiated Instruction grant, also through the ADE, to provide students with different avenues to acquiring content, processing, constructing, or making sense of ideas by developing teaching materials so that all students within a classroom can learn effectively, regardless of differences in ability.
